First built in 1967, Lake Bonavista also has a second lake called Lake Bonaventure. The boundaries of Lake Bonavista are Anderson Road SE to the north, Bow Bottom Trail SE to the east, Canyon Meadows Drive SE to the south and Macleod Trail SE to the west. Lake Bonavista also contains a smaller community in its northeast corner called Bonavista Downs.

The 2012 population of Lake Bonavista was 10,475 persons; the average income amongst these residents is $100,000, making the community quite affluent. 4,106 dwellings exist within the borders of Lake Bonavista with an average sale price of between approximately $500,000 and $800,000.

Transit
Lake Bonavista, as well as Canyon Meadows, receives transit bus service via route 35. Busses stop at two points within Lake Bonavista: at the intersections of Lake Bonavista Drive and Bonaventure Drive, and Lake Bonavista Drive and Acadia Drive. The CTrain runs north just east of Macleod Trail; its nearest station is at the intersection of Macleod and Canyon Meadows. The closest bus terminal is at Anderson; listed below are the buses that run the route.

Parks & Recreation
Lake Bonavista has many green spaces and greenbelts woven through the community, though the central focus for outdoor recreation is clearly Lake Bonavista. Unlike other communities in Calgary where the lake likely looks to residents more like a pond, Lake Bonavista lives up to its name. Every type of water sport imaginable can be had here. Lake Bonaventure is the second manmade lake in the community, but it is more exclusive; in fact, only people with homes on the lake can have access.
