Kingsland was established in 1957. The 2012 population of the community was 4,513. Home prices range from approximately $500,000 to $1,000,000, the more affordable properties generally consisting of bungalows and the top-end properties being new, large homes with modern styling.

The community is bordered by Glenmore Trail to the north, Macleod Trail SE to the east, Heritage Drive SW to the south and Keewatin Street SW to the west. Surrounding communities include Fairview, Chinook Park, Kelvin Grove, Meadowland Park and Bel-Aire.

Transit
A CTrain line runs north east of Macleod Trail; residents use the SB Heritage LRT Station. The nearest bus route is 79, with the station at Bonaventure Drive and Heritage Drive SE.

Parks & Recreation
Kingsland Park is located in the southeast corner of the community. It consists only of a baseball diamond in its center and a good portion of surrounding greenery.

Shortly down Heritage Drive SW to the west is the Heritage Park Historical Village, where residents can take a step back into Calgary's history from 1860-1950. In the northwestern corner of the community is the small but convenient Kingsland Shopping Centre, which has a Starbucks, UPS Store, Shoppers Drug Mart, Cobs Bread, family dentist, Merry Malda, veterinary clinic, Kingsland Shoe Repair, Family Chiropractic, physiotherapy provider, Laurelwood Flowers, and a tanning salon. Also just north is the Chinook Shopping Centre, so the community has a good mix of large and small places to shop.
