Cranston is a small, narrow community with Stony Trail SE to the north and Deerfoot Trail to the east. To its west lies the Bow River and to the south Deerfoot trail as well. In fact Cranston does not have a southern edge like most Calgary suburban communities but instead it tapers to a point.

In 2011 the population was 10,831 persons living in 4,131 dwellings. Homes range in price from approximately $350,000 to $1,400,000. Cranston is all about nature, with the Bow River right next store and snow-covered mountains visible in the distance. Keeping with the preservation of a natural feel, Cranston was named after the original family that settled the area.

Transit
The Cranston Express, on route 133, runs through the community, with the station at Douglas Glen. This allows residents who use public transportation to get around faster than many other suburban Calgary communities.

The nearest shopping mecca is the Shawnessy Village Shopping Center. Other surrounding stores include Shoppers Drug Mart, Michelle's Floral Boutique, Addition Elle and Sears Canada. North is the Chinook Bowladrome, Laser Runner and Shakers Fun Centre.
