The boundaries of Southwood are Southland Drive SW to the north, Macleod Trail SE to the east, Anderson Road SW to the south and 14th Street SW to the west. The community was founded in 1959, and by 2012 had a population of 6,085. There are a total of approximately 2,700 homes in the area that range in price from $400,000 to $600,000.

Transit
Bus route 80 runs in the community next to Southwood, Willow Park, but the primary public transit for the community is the CTrain with Anderson and Southland stations.

Parks & Recreation
North is Elbow Park, northwest is South Glenmore Park and east across the Bow River is Carburn Park and Sue Higgins Park. These are the largest parks located in the area, and features include fire pits, tables and benches, walking trails, year-round washrooms, seasonal ice skating, fishing and man-made ponds. The community is located next-door to the Southcentre Mall, so shopping is a cinch.
