Downtown East Village - SW Calgary Real Estate


With its limited space, the Downtown East Village community is a condominium haven. Prices range from approximately $250,000 to $1,400,000. In 2011 the population was 2,747 and this population lived in 1,232 dwellings. The area of the East Village is 49 acres, with Fort Calgary to the east and the downtown business centre to the west, 9th avenue to the south and Bow River to the north.

The East Village is a far cry from the large single-family homes of the SE Calgary suburbs. Since 2007 alone $180M in renovations have taken the city to the next level. The goal of the community is to become the most livable urban space in Calgary, and it's doing a great job of attaining that title.

Transit
The red line of the LRT runs straight through the Downtown East Village community. A bus line also moves around the exterior of the community. However, the primary mode of transit for many is simply walking or bicycling. Residents do not want to travel far for work or play.

Parks & Recreation
As you can imagine, there are no green spaces within this small urban community, but lovely green spaces are not far away. The community borders the Bow River; in fact, the most affluent residents have a view of the river and enjoy the River Walk right outside their doors. Furthermore, the River Walk provides some green space to enjoy but just across the river is Centenary Park on St. Patrick's Island … And don't forget Fort Calgary, which is the origin of all of Calgary.

Downtown Calgary is less about big stores and more about boutiques, like most urban areas. Thankfully the East Village is close to a lot -- BCBG, CORE Shopping Centre, Deer Valley Shopping Center and more.
