First developed in 1948, the community of Parkdale has since transitioned from its post-war roots into an inner-city neighborhood prized for its proximity to downtown Calgary as well as the natural beauty of the Bow River's north bank. The community of Point McKay borders Parkdale to the west and West Hillhurst borders it to the east.

In the center of Parkdale is Parkdale Park, and on its southern corner sits the Parkdale Community Association which was established in 1953. Located just across the Bow River to the northwest is Edworthy Park. Visitors love walking the Douglas Fir Trail and exploring the Lawry Gardens, which aim to offer a diverse selection of nature to those living within an urban area.

Parkdale has a community theatre called the Morpheus Theatre Society. Westbrook Mall is the closest major shopping center complete with over 50 retail stores and restaurants.
