Established in 1900, Mission is a beautiful community which is bordered entirely on its eastern and southern side by the Elbow River --- a rare characteristic for any community in Calgary. The northern border of the community consists of 17th Avenue SW, while the western is formed by 4th Street SW. Parks & Recreation
The history of Mission is much more interesting than most Calgary communities. It was first founded as a Catholic mission, for example -- it's name is not simply given by a builder. The community is located close to Reader Rock Gardens, but parks and other outdoor space isn't the hallmark of Mission; rather, 4th Street, which makes up its western border, is the focal point. This area isn't just popular with community residents, but Calgary as a whole. Also more interestingly, dining -- not shopping -- is the focus of 4th Street, since it has over 35 restaurants.
